BusCancellations.ca vs your board’s official bus site

Updated · By The BusCancellations.ca team

Every school bus region in Canada posts its morning decision on its own transportation website, run by the consortium for its boards. We read those sites; we don’t replace them. Here is what each is for, so you know which to open when.

Short answer

For your own child’s route, sign up for your consortium’s alerts: they are the source and they can reach you without you checking. Use BusCancellations.ca when you need more than one region at a glance, the night-before chance, or a quick check without hunting for your consortium’s page.

A region page: the official status with the time we last read it, a link to the source, and tomorrow’s chance.

When to open the official site

  • To sign up for alerts on your child’s bus run.
  • If our page says the signal was lost or the status looks out of date: the official site always has the final word.
  • For anything about a specific stop, transfer or the bus company: we don’t carry that.

When BusCancellations.ca is quicker

  • Kids in two boards, or a commute across a region line: one screen shows every region.
  • The night before: the snow day predictor gives a chance for tomorrow morning from the Environment Canada forecast.
  • A fast check: every region page leads with the status and when we last read it, then links straight to the official site.

Who should rely on the official site

  • Every family, for the decision itself and for route alerts.
  • Families in Newfoundland and Labrador or Sudbury, where we don’t read the official site automatically and our page only links to it, and anyone in a region we don’t list.
